THREE SPANISH GIRLS IN A FASHION SHOW

En uno de estos días normales de trabajo (es broma, no hemos tenido un día normal de trabajo en estos tres meses, y con eso me refiero a que no hemos dejado espacio a la rutina ni al aburrimiento, lo cual es genial) acabamos yendo a un desfile de moda dónde lxs estudiantes recién licenciados en Diseño de Moda de la NTU mostraban sus trabajos finales.

Ya había estado un par de veces en desfiles de moda en Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week, pero en Nottingham era la primera vez. He de decir que para ser algo relacionado con proyectos de fin de curso de una universidad aparentemente alternativa, la organización era de lo más elitista y su desarrollo fue bastante predecible.

Los trabajos de lxs alumnxs denotaban un gran esfuerzo y tiempo dedicado a sus espaldas, que mostraban a través de prendas, muestras de telas, joyas, complementos y, por supuesto, sus cuadernos con todos sus diseños, dibujos y anotaciones.

En definitiva, una cosa más para añadir al saco de experiencias.

THREE SPANISH GIRLS IN A FASHION SHOW

In one of these normal working days (just kidding, we have not had a normal day of work in these three months, and by that I mean we have not given way to routine and boredom, which is wonderful) we went to a fashion show where the Fashion Design students of the NTU displayed their final projects. 

I had been a few times in fashion shows in Cibeles Madrid Fashion Week, but in Nottingham was the first time. I have to say that to be something related to final projects in an apparently alternative university, the organization was really elite and its development was quite predictable. 

I can see that the students had done a great effort and they had spent a lot of time doing it, showing through clothing, pieces of fabric, jewelry, accessories and, of course, his books with all designs, drawings and notes. 

In short, one more thing to add to the bag of experience.

POPPY BLOW, iniciativa y fortaleza.

Todo producto de calidad reclama ser importado. Tres jóvenes estudiantes dispuestas a ayudar de forma voluntaria y con buenos resultados en su trabajo, es calidad. No pretendo hacer apología de la esclavitud, ni mucho menos quiero decir que nos tratasen como objetos, pero así fue como empezamos a trabajar fuera de la Warehouse y a ampliar nuestro círculo de experiencia laboral, y estamos muy contentas con ello.

Conocimos a Katie Bidston, de 23 años, a través de Ian y Tricia. Ella estudió diseño de moda y punto, y más tarde trabajó diseñando para Pretty Green, la marca de ropa de Liam Gallagher. Por circunstancias de la vida y por su fuerte determinación, Katie se vio en la situación de regentar una tienda de ropa por ella misma,  con sus propios diseños y los de su difunto prometido.

La tienda de Katie no iba  a ser una tienda al uso. Estaría emplazada en una de las calles del casco histórico de Nottingham, justo al lado del Antiguo Castillo. Tuvo la suerte de encontrar una casa adosada (típica casa de ciudad en Inglaterra, “terraced house”) de tres pisos a buen precio, así que decidió vivir y trabajar en el mismo sitio. Dicha decisión conllevó una gran reforma que vimos pasar por nuestros ojos, pero que mereció la pena.

Poppy Blow es el nombre de la tienda. Su estilo, con reminiscencias retro a los años sesenta, tiene algo más que un soplo pop. Es brillante, colorida y única. Como dice su web: “la vida es demasiado corta para llevar ropa aburrida”.

Suelo amarillo y paredes blancas es algo que tuvo claro desde el principio.

Después de raspar pintura, pintar encima, despegar papel pintado, pintar, limpiar, barnizar y pintar un poco más, llegó el día de la inauguración. Nos quitamos todos los pegotes de pintura, nos vestimos de cóctel y disfrutamos del champán. Estábamos contentas de haber ayudado a Katie, entre otras muchas personas, a hacer posible Poppy Blow, y nos llevamos muchas habilidades aprendidas y bastantes amigos. Así que gracias por la experiencia.

POPPY BLOW, initiative and strength.

All quality products ask to be imported. Three young students willing to help on a voluntary and successful in their work, this is quality. I'm not doing apology for slavery, but that's how we started working apart from the Warehouse. We expanded our circle of work experience, and we are very happy with that.

We met Katie Bidston, 23 years old woman, through Ian and Tricia. She studied fashion design, period, and later she worked designing for Pretty Green, Liam Gallagher’s fashion label. Due to the circumstances of life and her strong determination, Katie started to own clothing a store by herself, with her own designs and those of her late fiance.

Katie's shop was not going to be a usual shop. It's located near the Nottingham Castle. She was fortunate to find a three storey townhouse for a good price, so she decided to live and work in the same place. That decision led to a major reform we saw go through our eyes, but it was worth it.

Poppy Blow is the name of the store. His style, reminiscent of retro sixties, has more than a pop blow. It is bright, colorful and unique. As they say in the website: "Life's too short to wear boring clothes."

Quitando capas de papel de pared, dimos con unas antiguas ventanas con unos vidrios decorativos probablemente de los años sesenta. Maravillosos. Pero no quedó más remedio que quitarlos porque estaban en muy malas condiciones. Una pena.
We were removing layers and layers of wallpaper when we found a few old windows with decorative glass likely from the sixties. Gorgeous. But they were in very poor condition so we had to remove them.

After scraping paint, sand the wood, steam the paint, remove the wallpaper, paint, clean, varnish and paint some more, came the day of the inauguration. We took off all the globs of paint, we put our lippy on and enjoyed the champagne. We were happy to have helped Katie, among many others, to make possible Poppy Blow, and we got a lot of skills learned and plenty of friends. So thank you for the experience.

ABSEILING OF A LENTON FLAT

Venir hasta aquí en avión, comer cosas raras, hablar raro, mover muebles, distribuir espacios, comprar mucha ropa, salir en un corto e incluso acampar, son cosas que podía prever, pero bajar haciendo rappel por un edificio de 17 plantas es algo que nunca hubiera dicho antes de venir a Nottingham.

Pues sí, tal y como lo lees.
Se trataba de una actividad promovida por una organización benéfica llamada School for Parents, la cual apoya a  niñxs en edad preescolar con condiciones tales como la parálisis cerebral o el síndrome de Down. Y como en toda actividad benéfica, hay que dar un donativo. Tengo entendido que los donativos son voluntarios y que unx mismx elige la cantidad. No estoy diciendo que vaya a ir por la cara, pero… un mínimo de £50 me pareció excesivo, sobre todo cuando ni siquiera sé cuánto de esos £50 le llegará a los niñxs.

Me quedé un poco impactada cuando, al inscribirme, me preguntaron por mi sucesión testada. No dudé en decir a mi madre, pero vamos, que no pensaba morir ese día.
I was a little shocked, when signing on the list, because they asked me about my testate succession. I didn't hesitate to say to my mother, but come on...I was not going to die that day.

Por qué de esta aventura lo explico a continuación. Como ya mencioné en un post anterior, Sam Derby-Cooper, el director de cine con el que trabajamos en alguna ocasión, está trabajando en un documental sobre cinco edificios en demolición (Lenton Flats). Pues bien, el edificio del que descendimos es uno de los dos que quedan en pie, y era la ocasión perfecta para grabar unas tomas con la GoPro. Así que me apunté en la lista, me puse la cámara en el casco y le di otro punto de vista al descenso.

Fue más tranquilo de lo que pensaba. Obviamente había tensión y algo de dolor, pero no lo pasé mal y eso me dejó disfrutar las vistas, así que ahí dejo la recomendación.

ABSEILING OF A LENTON FLAT

Come to here by plane, eat weird things, speak weird, move furniture, distribute spaces, buy a lot of clothes, go out on a short and even camping are things that could be expected, but abseiling down 17-story building is something that never would have said before coming to Nottingham.

Yes, as you read.
This was a activity sponsored by a charity called School for Parents, which supports babies and pre-school children with conditions such as cerebral palsy that cause motor disorders or motor development delay. And as in any charitable activity, you must to give a donation, but a minimum of £50 seems excessive for me.

The why this adventure I explain below. As I mentioned in a previous post, Sam Derby-Cooper, film director with whom we work in some occasions, is working on a documentary about five buildings under demolition (Lenton Flats). Well, the building that we descended is one of the two which keep standing, and it was the perfect opportunity to record some footage with the GoPro. So I signed up on the list, I put the camera on the helmet and gave another point of view to the descent.

It was quieter than I thought. Obviously there was tension and some back pain, but it wasn't a bad experience and this allowed me to enjoy the view, so there I leave the recommendation.

LITTLE WOLF PARADE

Little Wolf Parade es una plataforma afincada en Nottingham que produce eventos artísticos. Una de sus últimas apariciones fue el pasado 28 de junio en la Vintage Warehouse (que por cierto, a falta de una inauguración oficial, este verano la Vintage Warehouse no para de recibir peticiones para celebrar eventos).

20 artistas actuando simultáneamente, Djs, bebidas y merchandising. Preparar el espacio para esta ocasión fue algo más complicado que otras veces. Ya sabes, arte contemporáneo, performance, conceptualismo… nunca sabes por dónde te van a salir, pero el resultado fue sensacional.

Una vez más, llego la noche del evento, y una vez más me pillaron por sorpresa con algo que no había visto en la vida. Obviamente, hubo performances que me gustaron mucho, otras que me gustaron menos y otras que no me gustaron, pero eso depende del punto de vista de cada uno.

Lo que realmente me gustó es ver que cada uno de esos artistas había logrado llevar a cabo su proyecto y estaba contento con ello. Y lo estaban haciendo en grupo en un espacio genial, compartiendo inquietudes y cervezas. Me gustó especialmente porque me gustaría estar en su lugar en algún momento de mi vida no muy lejano.

LITTLE WOLF PARADE

Little Wolf Parade based in Nottingham is a platform that produces art events. One of his last appearances was on 28 June at the Vintage Warehouse (which by the way, in the absence of a formal inauguration, the Vintage Warehouse is receiving requests to make events all the time).

20 artists performing simultaneously, Djs, drinks and merchandising. Prepare the room for this occasion was more complicated than usual. You know, contemporary art, performances, conceptualism ... you never know what it is, but the result was sensational.

Again came the night of the event, and once again caught me by surprise with something I had not seen in life. Obviously, there were performances that I really liked, others I liked less and others that I did not like, but that depends on the point of view of each.

What I really liked was to see that each of these artists had managed to carry out his project and was happy with it. And they were doing it in a great group space, sharing concerns and beers. I especially liked it because I would like to be in place at some point in my life, not too distant.

EL DEPARTAMENTO DE ARTE

Estaba claro desde un principio que trabajando con Greenshoots Nottingham no íbamos a quedarnos en “decoración de interiores”, que es a lo que se ciñe el contrato, si no que íbamos a ir más allá, mucho más.

Y así fue, la tercera semana ya estábamos trabajando como departamento de arte en un cortometraje publicitario dirigido por Sam-Derby Cooper y producido por Tracey McMaster (mencionados ambos en el post “Lenton Flats”). Nos encargamos de vestuario, atrezzo, logística, e incluso, dos de nosotras aparecimos como extras y figuración.

A mí en particular, me ayudó mucho haber participado este mismo año en el rodaje de un videoclip (Ángel Stanich – Metralleta Joe) como ayudante del departamento de arte, con especial agradecimiento a Patricia Heras.

En definitiva, un día de rodaje bastante duro, divertido y nuevo, que nos sirvió para mejorar el idioma, conocer gente y ampliar el abanico de nuestras posibles habilidades. Porque la escenografía no deja de estar relacionada con la decoración de interiores.

SKILLS IN ARTS DEPARTMENT

We knew from the beginning that work with Greenshoots Nottingham not going to stay in "interior design", we know that we're going to go beyond it, much more. 

And so, the third week we were already working as art department in an advertising short film directed by Sam Derby-Cooper and produced by Tracey McMaster (both mentioned in the post "Lenton Flats"). We take care of clothes, props, logistics, and even two of us showed up as extras and figuration. 

For me in particular, one thing which have really helped me this year is participate in the shooting of a video clip (Ángel Stanich - Metralleta Joe) as an assistant in the art department, with special thanks to Patricia Heras.

In short, a pretty tough day of shooting, funny and new for us, which helped us to improve the language, meet people and expand the range of our possible abilities. Because the set design is related to the interior design.

Noche de rock psicodélico en la Warehouse. Con banda de rock psicodélico, Djs, proyecciones, flores y demás psicodelias. Todo esto en el sótano, porque no sé si lo sabéis, pero está estipulado que, cada evento tiene que desarrollarse en una planta diferente al evento de la semana anterior, por el simple hecho de que nos resulta hilarante cargar los muebles de un lado a otro (sarcasmo).

El tema de mover los muebles se convierte en una nimiedad cuando pienso en lo mucho que estoy aprendiendo. Ya no solo en cuanto al idioma, sino en cuanto a cómo llevar un negocio, preparar un evento, llevar a cabo una performance, vivir sola, aprovechar mi talento… Así que movería todo un estadio si hiciera falta.

Aún sigo esperando BLOOM\\\VOL.2\\\ porque la música me gustó especialmente.

Night of psychedelic rock in the Warehouse. With a psychedelic rock band, DJs, projections, flowers and other psychedelic stuff. All this in the basement, because I don't know if you know this, but stipulated that each event has to be developed in a different floor from the previous week event, for the simple fact that we find hilarious to carry the furniture from side to other (sarcasm). 

The issue of moving the furniture becomes a trifle when I think how much I'm learning. Not only in language but in how to run a business, prepare an event, conduct a performance, live by myself, use my talent ... So I would carry an entire stadium if necessary. 

I'm still waiting BLOOM \ \ \ VOL.2 \ \ \ because I especially liked the music.
