Todo producto de calidad reclama ser importado. Tres jóvenes estudiantes dispuestas a ayudar de forma voluntaria y con buenos resultados en su trabajo, es calidad. No pretendo hacer apología de la esclavitud, ni mucho menos quiero decir que nos tratasen como objetos, pero así fue como empezamos a trabajar fuera de la
Warehouse y a ampliar nuestro círculo de experiencia laboral, y estamos muy contentas con ello.

Conocimos a
Katie Bidston, de 23 años, a través de
Ian y Tricia. Ella estudió diseño de moda y punto, y más tarde trabajó diseñando para
Pretty Green, la marca de ropa de
Liam Gallagher. Por circunstancias de la vida y por su fuerte determinación, Katie se vio en la situación de regentar una tienda de ropa por ella misma, con sus propios diseños y los de su difunto prometido.
La tienda de Katie no iba a ser una tienda al uso. Estaría emplazada en una de las calles del casco histórico de Nottingham, justo al lado del
Antiguo Castillo. Tuvo la suerte de encontrar una casa adosada (típica casa de ciudad en Inglaterra, “terraced house”) de tres pisos a buen precio, así que decidió vivir y trabajar en el mismo sitio. Dicha decisión conllevó una gran reforma que vimos pasar por nuestros ojos, pero que mereció la pena.
Poppy Blow es el nombre de la tienda. Su estilo, con reminiscencias retro a los años sesenta, tiene algo más que un soplo pop. Es brillante, colorida y única. Como dice
su web: “la vida es demasiado corta para llevar ropa aburrida”.

Después de raspar pintura, pintar encima, despegar papel pintado, pintar, limpiar, barnizar y pintar un poco más, llegó el día de la inauguración. Nos quitamos todos los pegotes de pintura, nos vestimos de cóctel y disfrutamos del champán. Estábamos contentas de haber ayudado a Katie, entre otras muchas personas, a hacer posible
Poppy Blow, y nos llevamos muchas habilidades aprendidas y bastantes amigos. Así que gracias por la experiencia.

POPPY BLOW, initiative and strength.
All quality products ask to be imported. Three young students willing to help on a voluntary and successful in their work, this is quality. I'm not doing apology for slavery, but that's how we started working apart from the
Warehouse. We expanded our circle of work experience, and we are very happy with that.

We met
Katie Bidston, 23 years old woman, through
Ian and Tricia. She studied fashion design, period, and later she worked designing for
Pretty Green,
Liam Gallagher’s fashion label. Due to the circumstances of life and her strong determination, Katie started to own clothing a store by herself, with her own designs and those of her late fiance.
Katie's shop was not going to be a usual shop. It's located near the
Nottingham Castle. She was fortunate to find a three storey townhouse for a good price, so she decided to live and work in the same place. That decision led to a major reform we saw go through our eyes, but it was worth it.
Poppy Blow is the name of the store. His style, reminiscent of retro sixties, has more than a pop blow. It is bright, colorful and unique. As they say in
the website: "Life's too short to wear boring clothes."

Quitando capas de papel de pared, dimos con unas antiguas ventanas con unos vidrios decorativos probablemente de los años sesenta. Maravillosos. Pero no quedó más remedio que quitarlos porque estaban en muy malas condiciones. Una pena.
We were removing layers and layers of wallpaper when we found a few old windows with decorative glass likely from the sixties. Gorgeous. But they were in very poor condition so we had to remove them. |
After scraping paint, sand the wood, steam the paint, remove the wallpaper, paint, clean, varnish and paint some more, came the day of the inauguration. We took off all the globs of paint, we put our lippy on and enjoyed the champagne. We were happy to have helped Katie, among many others, to make possible
Poppy Blow, and we got a lot of skills learned and plenty of friends. So thank you for the experience.
